I believe in evidence-based thinking in all aspects of life, including the public and the private spheres. I believe that institutional religion is a grave threat to the survival of our civilization, and that its eradication is a moral imperative. I believe that spreading and strengthening secularism is one of the most important things we can do to improve society, by stifling the most pervasive cause of and justification for social injustice and human rights abuses. I believe in the scientific method in all areas, including those not specifically science-based – namely, that we must follow the evidence, even when it is uncomfortable or non-intuitive or surprising. I believe that the only way to guarantee a better future for our children is by making decisions based on reality, not on what we wish were true. And I believe that if we work on cultivating not just our ability to think critically, but on our own innate sense of human compassion and empathy, we may actually figure out how to be kinder to one another – which, in the end, is really the whole point of all of this.
